National Preparedness Month – Plan Today. Ready Tomorrow.

September is National Preparedness Month. Are you prepared to be resilient in the face of disaster?

With the recent increase in wildfire risk in our region and the ongoing threat of extreme weather events due to climate change, it’s more important than ever for you and your loved ones to have a plan and provisions to get you through a disaster. Check out the list of resources below for helpful information on how to be sure you and your family are prepared when an emergency hits:

·       Learn about potential disasters and emergency situations in Oregon.

·       Make a plan.

·       Build a kit.

·       Be 2 Weeks Ready.

·       Don’t forget about pets!

·       Sign up for emergency alerts.

·       Learn about wildfire prevention and how you can help.

·       Resources from OHA and OEM.

While individual preparedness is important, community resilience is just as vital. At the Oregon Department of Energy, we work year round to help ensure Oregon is ready when disaster strikes by participating in emergency drills and planning meetings with our partners. Learn more about ODOE’s emergency preparedness work on our website. ODOE also administers Oregon’s Community Renewable Energy Grant Program, which provides funding for Tribes, public bodies, and consumer-owned utilities to strengthen energy resilience in their communities.

Want to help your community be more resilient in the face of disaster? Join FEMA for a webinar on September 14, titled Getting Your Community Engaged in Preparedness, to hear from community preparedness leaders from Oregon and Washington about what they've done to help plan and prepare their neighborhoods for emergencies and disasters.
