Home Energy Performance Score Stakeholder Panel to meet June 19

SALEM — The City of Portland’s proposed home energy performance scoring system will receive its final letter of approval during a public meeting next Monday, June 19 in Portland. The Home Energy Performance Score Stakeholder Panel will gather at 9 a.m. at the Market Street Building, 1600 SW 4th Ave., Room 127.

The Oregon Department of Energy will deliver an approval letter from agency director Mike Kaplan for Portland’s home energy scorecard, which will be produced by the City’s scoring system beginning January 1, 2018. The scorecard earned preliminary approval from the panel last month and is based on a template created by the U.S. Department of Energy.

Portland’s efforts are related to a statewide endeavor undertaken by ODOE’s stakeholder panel over the past two years. Though the statewide application will be voluntary, the City of Portland’s program will be mandatory and will help prospective home buyers and sellers – as well as real estate professionals and renters – better understand home energy performance.

Panel members include energy efficiency experts, utilities, a home builder association representative, and home appraisers.

Also at the June 19 meeting, the panel will discuss how greenhouse gas emissions, created from home energy consumption, are communicated on the scorecard.
