ODOE to Hold Two Public Information Meetings in November on Proposed Utility-Scale Solar Projects
The Energy Facility Siting Council is currently reviewing seven proposed state-jurisdiction facilities in Oregon. Two of those facilities, Bakeoven Solar Project and Obsidian Solar Center, recently submitted complete applications for a site certificate. Now, ODOE will host informational meetings about each proposed facility so Oregonians can learn more about them.
A complete application for a site certificate is a significant milestone in the siting process. An application describes the proposed facility and addresses various standards like soil protection, fish and wildlife habitat, threatened and endangered species, all applicable local land use criteria, and more.
The information meetings are held to share more information about proposed facilities, explain the next few steps in the review process, and offer an opportunity for the public to ask questions of ODOE and of the facility applicant. While it is not an official public hearing or public comment phase, it’s a helpful step in the process for Oregonians to better understand what energy facilities may be coming to their communities, and how to get involved in the process.
Following an information meeting, ODOE will develop a Draft Proposed Order, which is staff’s evaluation of the application against all applicable standards. The DPO will include a recommendation to grant (with conditions) or to deny a site certificate for the proposed facility.
Oregonians are invited to join ODOE at the two public information meetings next week:
