SALEM — The Oregon Global Warming Commission will meet Thursday, December 12, 2019. Registration will begin at 12:45 p.m., and the public meeting will be held from 1-4:30 p.m. in the Vernier Community Room at The Nature Conservancy’s Oregon Conservation Center: 821 SE 14th Ave, Portland, OR 97214.
If you would like to participate remotely, please join through Zoom online or call 1-669-900-6833, Meeting ID 205 292 640 (you can also find your local Zoom number here).
Oregon will continue to deliberate on a state cap on greenhouse gas emissions, with the expectation that cap-and-invest legislation will be considered again in the February 2020 legislative session. Anticipating that the Governor and legislative leadership remain committed to moving such a cap, the Oregon Global Warming Commission can consider and make recommendations on complementary policies and actions to sustain and extend the state’s greenhouse gas reduction efforts. The Commission can also endorse adoption of more systematic climate adaptation measures. With this in mind, the Commission plans to focus on the following topics for this fall and winter:
1. Building Sector Emissions
2. Zero- and Low-Carbon Transportation
3. Natural and Working Lands Sector Carbon
4. Adaptation and Resilience
5. Climate Refugees
At its October 25 public meeting, the Commission covered the first two topic areas with informational presentations and Commission member discussion. At its December 12 meeting, the Commission will receive invited presentations on carbon in the Natural and Working Lands Sector, and it will discuss options for recommendations in the Built Environment and Transportation Sectors. No resolutions are expected to be introduced or voted on at this meeting.
At the discretion of the Chair, a public comment opportunity is anticipated at approximately 4:00 p.m. Public comments can also be mailed, emailed, or submitted through the Commission website at www.keeporegoncool.org/contact-us. A final agenda will be available 24 hours before this meeting at www.keeporegoncool.org/meetings.
If you need special accommodations to participate in the meeting, please contact Linda Ross at 503-378-6874 or at linda.ross@oregon.gov.
