Senate Confirms Cynthia Condon as Energy Facility Siting Council’s Newest Member

The Oregon Senate has confirmed Cynthia (Cindy) Condon of Salem as the newest member of the Energy Facility Siting Council. Condon was appointed by Governor Brown and confirmed by the Senate for a term beginning February 14 (Oregon’s birthday!) through December 12, 2020. Condon is completing the remainder of a recently-vacated term, and will be eligible to be reappointed for two additional four-year terms.

Condon brings a strong background in leadership and community involvement with her to the council. As an Oregon native she has spent most of her life in the state, graduating with a BA in biology from the University of Oregon and later earning an MBA from Willamette University. “I look forward to serving Oregonians through this new role as an Energy Facility Siting Council member,” said Condon. “I’m committed to ensuring requirements and standards for energy facility siting in our state are met with ample opportunity for public voices to be heard.”

Condon will join current council members Hanley Jenkins, Marcy Grail, Kent Howe, Mary Winters, and Jordan Truitt. Members are selected to understand, evaluate, and deliberate complex issues associated with proposed energy facilities under state jurisdiction and how those facilities affect Oregonians, the environment, and nearby communities. The council has the authority to approve or deny site certificates to allow applicants to construct and operate an energy facility. If a site certificate is granted, the council has ongoing regulatory authority over the construction and operation of the facility. The council also regulates the transportation of radioactive materials through Oregon, the disposal of radioactive materials within the state's borders, and the decommissioning of the Trojan Nuclear Power Plant.
