How do Sherman County residents heat their homes?
Did you know?
Sherman County is producing renewable energy from 393 wind turbines — with another 125 turbines on the horizon:
The proposed Golden Hills Wind Project is a 400-megawatt facility that has been approved, but not yet constructed.
The Biglow Canyon Wind Farm is an operating 450-megawatt facility.
Klondike III Wind Project is an operating 300-megawatt facility.
The John Day Dam, which produces about 2,160 megawatts of renewable hydropower, is just east of Rufus on the Columbia River. It is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Sherman County, with its share of renewable energy facilities, is very familiar with the benefits and potential drawbacks that come with the facilities. In our 2018 Biennial Energy Report, local leaders weighed in on how the facilities affect the county.
