The Dalles Dam, which began operating in 1957, is just outside The Dalles in Wasco County. The dam has a total capacity of 1,878 megawatts of renewable hydropower. It’s operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the power is marketed by the Bonneville Power Administration.
The Bakeoven Solar Project is a proposed 303-megawatt solar facility east of Maupin.
The Summit Ridge Wind Farm is an approved 194-megawatt wind facility southeast of The Dalles. The facility has not yet been constructed.
We often talk about energy efficiency and weatherization with a broad perspective – describing various program requirements or cumulative statewide energy savings. But it’s worth remembering that these programs make meaningful improvements to people’s lives, where families save energy and money, have an easier time paying their energy bills, improve the value of their homes, and are more comfortable. Case studies from Northern Wasco County People’s Utility District illustrate the power of these real-life benefits.
